The tiles are specifically chosen for low water absorption properties to minimize the danger of cracking in freeze/thaw situations. For the plastic base, we use a polymer mix which consists mainly of polyethylene with some polypropylene added for extra stiffness. Polyethylene can be used extremely cold conditions without becoming excessively brittle.
