The choice of connector materials is also very different in different usage scenarios. The housing of the connector is the main part of the entire connector, which roughly determines the size and size of the connector. Next, we will introduce the five common connector plastic materials, which have very important technical knowledge, whether it is for buyers or engineers, or business, you must learn the technical knowledge.
Connector plastic materials are generally LCP, Nylon, PPS, PBT, PET.
1. LCP
LCP, liquid crystal polymer, is a material with very good electrical insulation properties. It can continue to maintain its electrical performance at 200 to 300 degrees Celsius without being affected. Intermittent use can reach a temperature of 316 degrees Celsius.
In addition, LCP has very strong corrosion resistance, and will not be subject to any corrosion in a 90% acidic or 50% alkaline environment.
LCP also has excellent thermal stability, heat resistance, and chemical resistance.
2. Nylon
Nylon has good toughness, self-lubricating, chemical resistance and wear resistance.
PA6T has better toughness than PA9T, and its heat distortion temperature is 290 degrees Celsius, which is very suitable for SMT connectors.
PA46 products have high strength and good toughness, and are not prone to cracks.
3. PPS
Advantages: better rigidity, low water absorption, good dimensional stability, HDT260℃, good flame retardant performance.
Disadvantages: slow crystallization speed, products are prone to burrs, and toughness is poor.
4. PBT
PBT is a crystalline engineering plastic. Has a clear melting point (215-235 ℃). In the molten state, it has low viscosity, good fluidity, low hygroscopicity, and can maintain good electrical stability under humid and high temperature conditions.
Disadvantages: greater shrinkage after molding.
Because the heat resistance is not high enough, it cannot be used for SMT, only for DIP type connectors (such as D-SUB25P, DR-9P, etc.)
5. PET
Crystalline engineering plastics, melting point 245-260℃. Better mechanical properties, electrical properties, solvent resistance
Disadvantages: Anisotropic, large shrinkage. The crystallization rate is slow. Drying requirements are higher.
The above are the five common connector plastic materials. After comprehensive analysis, we can summarize the principle of which material to choose:
1. Good fluidity (such as LCP, nylon, etc., can prepare thin-walled products)
2. High strength, good impact performance
3. High temperature resistance (especially SMT)
4. Excellent electrical performance (high resistance, low dielectric loss)
5. Short molding cycle (improve production efficiency and reduce costs)
6. If the performance meets the conditions, the price has an advantage
Most of the connectors produced by WIN-WIN electronics use nylon and PBT. Of course, customers can also change according to the design requirements, and we can make corresponding changes according to the actual needs of customers. This is the customized service we provide, whether it is the product size, material, or related design, we can do it.
