There are several different 3D Printing processes and a variety of materials to choose from. There are 3 kinds of printing techniques which are SLA/SLS/FDM.
3D printers print objects made from ABS plastic and other thermoplastic materials, mostly because plastic is the cheapest material to work with.
Plastics and metal alloys are the most commonly used materials for 3D printing.
