A: (1) Check the swinging torque. Hook the spring balance to the top of the ball tie stud of the tie rod and pull the spring balance. When the ball studs and the trailing levers start to move, check the measured values read by the spring scale. If the standard is exceeded, replace the tie rods and the steering gear assembly.
(2) Check the rotating torque Use a special small torque wrench to turn the ball stud and confirm that the rotating torque is within the specified range (0.3 to 2.9 N·m). Replace the ball joint if the reading exceeds the specified value.
(3) Check the ball joint clearance In the actual maintenance, the ball joint clearance is often checked to determine whether it needs to be replaced. The inspection method is: raise the vehicle, one person swings the steering wheel at a small angle, and another person observes under the vehicle to see if the ball is Loose. You can also shake the tie rod to see if the ball is loose.
