1.0 Brief Introduction of Reed Switch
1.1 Structure and operating principle of reed switch
The reed switch consists of a pair of flexible reeds made of a magnetic material, and sealed in a glass tube filled with inert gas. The reed are overlapped but separated by a small gap. The contacts area of each reed is plated with a noble metal to provide the switch with stable characteristics and long life.
Application of magnetic field, generated by a permanent magnet to the reed switch causes both reeds to be magnetized. If the magnetic attracting force overcomes the resistive force caused by elasticity of reed ,the reeds come in contact (pull in),the circuit is closed.
1.2 Application of reed switches
Reed switches are widely used in automotive sensors, security doors and windows anti-theft, household electrical appliances sensors, and automation control fields. Magnetic reed sensors are most widely used in automobiles.
