The main components of both isolation transformers and control transformers are a primary coil, a secondary coil and a core. Both of them are a kind of the toroidal transformer. So what are the distinctions between isolation transformers and control transformers?

Here Are Their Distinction As Below:
The Definitions
Isolation transformer is a transformer with electrical isolation between the primary winding and secondary winding, avoiding the accidental simultaneous touching of charged bodies. Isolation means isolating the respective current of the primary and secondary coils. For example, 1:1 isolation transformers are usually used in the color TV and air conditioning maintenance as a safety isolating power.
Control transformers are mainly used for control as its name implies, transforming the primary voltage to the voltage suitable for the electrical control circuit.Foe example,
a 380v to 36v control transformer is required to reduce the voltage of the lathe control circuit to 36v for the safety of operators.
The Application
The isolating transformer is the safe power supply, generally used for machine repair, maintenance, protection, lightning protection and filtering. In order to avoid accidentally touching the charged body at the same time, isolation transformers were widely used in the power industry in european countries in the early stages, such as the electronic industry, mining enterprises, machine tools and mechanical equipment in the general circuit control power supply, safety lighting and indicator power supply.
The control transformer is mainly suitable for ac 50Hz(or 60Hz), the circuits of 1000v or below 1000v, working continuously for a long time under rated load. It is usually used in machine tools, mechanical equipment as electrical control lighting and indicator power supply for the purpose of meeting the voltage requirements of different electrical components.
The Function
Isolating transformer is to prevent electric equipment from harmonic interference of power supply. In fact, it is a filter with poor performance.
The control transformer is used to supply power for the control system during the operation of electrical equipment. The output voltage of control transformer is generally 6.3V, 12V, 24V, 36V, 50V, 110V, 127V.
In order to reduce the cost, some control transformers only have a single output with the low voltage or three to five outputs. But the isolating transformer is generally 1:1, the isolating transformer and the control transformer function is different.
