 Sanitizing with UV-C light has been a normal practice since the mid-20th century.

 UV-C light is a short-wavelength, ultraviolet light that breaks apart germ DNA, leaving it unable to function or reproduce. In other words, UV-C light is germicidal (UV-A and UV-B light are not). UV-C can even neutralize “superbugs” that have developed a resistance to antibiotics.

 Ultraviolet (UV) is electromagnetic radiation with wavelength from 10 nm (with a corresponding frequency of approximately 30 PHz) to 400 nm (750 THz), shorter than that of visible light but longer than X-rays, including 200-280nm deep ultraviolet (UVC), 280-315nm medium ultraviolet (UVB) and 315-400nm near ultraviolet (UVA). And electromagnetic radiation with wavelength 100-200nm is called vacuum ultraviolet, or Vacuum UV, or VUV,
The principle of ultraviolet sterilization comes from 2 forms.
One is the direct effect. As we all know, ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) is a disinfection method that uses short-wavelength ultraviolet (ultraviolet C or UVC), light to kill or inactivate microorganisms by destroying nucleic acids and disrupting their DNA, leaving them unable to perform vital cellular functions.

The ultraviolet absorption and photochemical sensitivity of DNA in the microbial cell nucleus coincide with 240-280nm and the absorption peak is around 265nm [3]. It is generally believed that the ultraviolet absorption peak of DNA is around 265nm, so ultraviolet rays around 265nm have the highest sterilization efficiency.  

The second sterilization form is indirect effect, that is, the photocatalyst (photocatalysts), like nano TiO2 irradiated by ultraviolet rays of a certain wavelength (usually using the UVA wavelength), and a photocatalytic reaction similar to photosynthesis occurs, generating free hydroxyl groups and active oxygen with extremely strong oxidation ability It has a strong photo-redox function, can oxidize and decompose various organic compounds and some inorganic substances, can destroy the cell membrane of bacteria and solidify virus proteins, can kill bacteria and decompose organic pollutants, and decompose organic pollutants into non-polluting Water (H2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2), so it has strong sterilization, deodorization, anti-mildew, anti-pollution self-cleaning, and air purification functions.
365 and 385nm had the high sterilization effect. The summary of the and experimental results, we can conclude that the sterilization effect of 385nm UV is equal to that of 365 nm UV. We showed that the UVA sterilization is a feasible even at 385nm-UVA which is close to visible radiation.
